Call of the Void – MiniJam 67

https://ohdamnitsjam.itch.io/call-of-the-void

I joined a Game Jam with 3 other teammates, to create a game within 72 hours with the limitation that there couldn’t be any enemies in our game.

We began by brainstorming as a group coming up with different ideas before settling on one that would involve the player getting a summoning spell from the book, from which they would have to then follow the recipe to then summon the void.

For this piece of work, I worked with the other team members to:

  • Brainstorm an idea
  • Plan and give out tasks
  • Review each other’s work

My personal role within the game Jam was:

Additonal low poly models for game items that we couldn’t get from our own asset packs

The items I created where:

  • Heart
  • Flower
  • Blood Machine
  • Butchers Knife in a chopping board
  • Pestle and Mortar
  • Salt
  • Plant Box

I also did the coding within the game for the summoning circle itself:

  • Item snap placement
    • I had to make all the items within the game be able to snap into position on the summoning circle, and from there into a face up position so when the player stepped back it would look in place and aesthetically pleasing.
  • Detecting what item was where in the circle
    • Set up a method for having each different summoning circle itself would be able to understand what item was in each of its sections as well as is the right item in the right location to start the summoning.
  • Figuring out what item needs to be spawned
    • Set up a method for the summoning circle to talk to the book UI my teammate made so that, the image shown on the floor was the same as the images shown in the book
